Greetings from Canada, Talking Karlsson on PDOCast

TORONTO – Greetings from Canada!

It’s been a good trip so far, at least for my stomach. I had my dose of Schwartz in Montreal, even if I missed, to my chagrin, the incomparable bagels of St-Viateur. Tried Seven Lives tacos and a fried chicken sandwich from Insomnia restaurant in Toronto, both solid, although I’m sorry I missed the old favorite Banh Mi Boyz.

Now let’s move on to beautiful Kanata, the Glendale of Canada!

Thanks again, readers of San Jose Hockey Now, for helping fund my coverage of the San Jose Sharks across Berlin, Prague and New York. I am coming back to you to solicit contributions to my Travel Tip Jar. I hate to start again so early in the season, but a trip to Europe is not a normal way to start the year, so my travel budget is a bit higher this season.

Please select “For friends and family” in PayPal so that 100% of your contribution goes to SJHN travel. You can also Venmo me at @shengpeng.

All help and 100% of your contributions go towards my travel expenses. Just to give you a rough idea of what they look like on this trip across Canada.

Flight: San Francisco to Dallas to Montreal, $400
AirBNB: Montreal for 2 nights, $150
Train: Montreal to Toronto, $60
AirBNB: Toronto for 1 night, $150
Train: Toronto to Ottawa, $60
AirBNB: Ottawa for 3 nights, $310
Flight: Ottawa to Buffalo, $7,800 (this is the lowest actual cost of a non-stop flight from Ottawa to Buffalo by kayak)
Flight: Ottawa to Toronto, $130
Train: Toronto to Buffalo, $70
Hotel: Buffalo for 1 night, $100
Flight: Buffalo to Chicago to San Francisco, $430

Just FYI, I try to stay within walking distance of arenas, to be more efficient with my time and save on carpooling fees. I take trains because they are usually much cheaper than flights. Also, their movement is smooth – unlike buses – so I can work on them.

Anything else I did in Canada? I hopped on Dimitri Filipovic’s PDOCast to talk all things San Jose Sharks, and we dug deeper into Erik Karlsson’s revival season and Timo Meier’s league value.

Thank you for your help and for continuing to support SJHN in our quest to provide you with the best San Jose Sharks coverage!
