Hear Ducks Ltd. and Jane Inc cover “In Between Days” from The Cure

Ducks Ltd. shared the latest entry to their The sincerest form of flattery covers the series, a rendition of The Cure’s “In Between Days” that features backing vocals from bandmate and fellow Torontonian Jane Inc (Carlyn Bezic).

Lead Ducks Ltd. vocalist Tom McGreevy said of the cover in a statement:

Robert Smith is a genius and The Cure are the best and I love this song. It’s so simple, but all the pieces fit together so well. We’ve listened to all the demos he’s done of it, and it’s cool to hear how clearly the fundamental parts are done on the very first one, even though he doesn’t have any lyrics yet and he just sings the melody without a word (which I also do when doing demos!). We mostly followed this one on a day off when we were touring with Nation of Language, so the voice was followed in the front seat of a Mitsubishi Outlander parked in the middle of the night outside an Airbnb in Grand Junction, Colorado . It’s also the first thing we did that our bassist Katie plays on.

Carlyn Bezic (aka Jane Inc) has been a friend for maybe a decade and is one of Toronto’s top musicians. I’ve seen her in so many bands and it was so cool to see the Jane Inc project come together because I feel like she just keeps refining and perfecting a creative vision that was already clear in some of the first projects I saw her in. I’ve always wanted to do something with her, so I was super excited that she said yes to that!

PS: Someone once told me that Robert Smith only responds to emails one day a week and it’s always IN CAPS. I don’t know if that’s true, but I really want it to be. Please also email me Mr. Smith!

“In Between Days” is the second entry in Ducks Ltd. The sincerest form of flattery series, following their March take on The Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Head On,” which featured Illuminati hotties (Sarah Tudzin).
