Here’s How Much Carrie’s ‘Sex and the City’ Apartment Could Cost Today

Carrie Bradshaw had a gorgeous apartment in “Sex and the City.” But one can’t help but wonder… how can a single woman paid by a writer afford a one bedroom, one bath on Manhattan’s Upper East Side?

Well we might not get that answer today, but we now have a prediction of how much his house, along with the fictional homes of several other memorable TV and movie locations, would cost in today’s hot real estate market. For Bradshaw’s home, it’s about $700,000.

And you know what, it doesn’t look too crazy!

La Jolla Realtors, a California-based real estate firm, has just released a list of several fictional film and television homes and apartments, offering suggestions on how much they assume they might cost in today’s market.

“Although many homes in our research are fictional, this data gives an indication of how much they would cost in real life in the same area,” a La Jolla spokesperson said in an email. “If you’re looking to live like Monica (on) ‘Friends’, or if you’re even looking to buy a cottage near London like ‘The Holiday’, you now have an indication of how much money you might need to buy those houses .”

In addition to Carrie’s original “SATC” apartment (don’t even consider the cost of the one she and Big bought after moving in together), La Jolla suggests prices for these shows and movies:

“The prince of Bel-Air”

Five beds, five bathrooms in upscale Bel Air Los Angeles? It will cost you dearly. In 2020, Realtor.com suggested he was worth around $7.5 millionand that year there was a promotional rate to spend the night there (for only $30!) set up through Airbnb.

“Full house” / “Alone at home”

$3.5 million (each)

A six-bedroom family home in Winnetka, Illinois, like the one in the 1990 movie “Home Alone,” is pretty valuable these days, and on par with the Tanner family home in “Full House” in Lower Pacific. Heights, San Francisco, CA.

In reality, however, there’s a certain cachet to owning the “Full House”: One of the sitcom’s producers bought the house in 2016 for $4 million, and in 2019 it was on the market for just under $6 million.

Not so much for the “Home Alone” house, which was listed in 2021 for $2.1 million.

“Vacations”

$2.45 million

The charming cottage in the 2006 film was based in Holmbury St. Mary, Surrey, UK. The two-bedroom home, called Honeysuckle Cottage, was on the market in 2018 for around US$803,000, and is now available for rent through Airbnb. (Many houses on the list, or their recreationshave had limited or ongoing agreements with the short-term rental company.)

“Friends” (Monica’s Apartment)

$2 million

Monica’s apartment in Greenwich Village is said to be much more valuable than Carrie’s, according to La Jolla, at more than double the value. In 2018, interior design startup Modsy gave it a modern lookwhich we think would increase the value significantly!

“Harry Potter” (The Dursley House)

$615,000

Harry’s aunt and uncle (and cousin) treated him abominably, but they would sit well in this three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Surrey, England. The house on the fictional “Privet Drive”, prominently featured in 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” released in 2016 for just over $619,000.

“Hocus Pocus” (Max and Dani’s house)

$520,000

Max and Dani make a mistake opening a magic book in 1993’s “Hocus Pocus,” but their home is what keeps us guessing. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Salem, Massachusetts, was built in 1870 and its estimated price matches research by La Jolla, according to Good Housekeeping.

‘Notebook’

$480,000

According to La Jolla estimates, you can get five bedrooms and five bathrooms in a stately home for a steal, if you’re good at living a little off the beaten path. The mansion Noah built for Allie in the 2004 hit is actually located on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina.

‘Twilight’ (Charlie’s House)

In the film, Bella’s father has moved to Forks, Washington, to a modest two-bedroom, one-bathroom home. The beneficial owners listed him for $350,000 in 2019, according to Maison Bellebut then posted it on Airbnb as a rental.
