Inside this $6 million Malibu-style beach house in Etobicoke
Nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac in the New Toronto community, this modern Malibu-style beach house is steps away from the sandy beaches that Lake Ontario has to offer. With its newly remodeled addition to the original bungalow, this home offers plenty of vacation vibes and is perfect for a family looking for a city getaway.
The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home at 1 Lake Shore Drive is exclusively listed for $6,000,000 and will hit the market after Labor Day.
Sales agent Dave Dubbin said the house can be split into two separate units and offers buyers the option of converting it into short-term rentals, Airbnb, or renting the space to the film and television industry.
In 2019, its current owners invested more than a million dollars to renovate the house, adding a new addition to the home, Dubbin said.
The owners, seeing its Airbnb potential, listed the house as an “Inner Beach House”. They would know a thing or two about the business of beach lifestyles – owning their own business, Inner Beach Co. in Port Credit, a retail store featuring beach-style decor and women’s beachwear.
Home was rated one of Airbnb’s Top Waterfront Properties in Ontario, according to Dubbin. Beautiful high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors in the living space bring in generous amounts of light and lake breezes, and spectacular views for sunrises and sunsets.
With stairs that lead to the waterfront, this listing is one of the only 175 waterfront family homes in Etobicoke. Dubbin said what sets it apart is its modernity, as most waterfront properties are in their original state and look like traditional smaller cottage-style bungalows. “It’s hard to find one that’s updated,” Dubbin said.
At the end of a cul-de-sac, Dubbin said the initial view of the house from the street is “unassuming,” but the closer you get, “you kind of get hit with this grand feeling, it’s is a hidden gem”.
The home also has a wood-burning fireplace in the spacious living room, a very rare find in a modern-style new home, Dubbin said, adding that it’s one of her favorite features in the home.
The master suite has access to a balcony that overlooks the waterfront and would be a perfect spot for a morning cup of coffee.
Dubbin said the list sparked great interest following an investigation by officers. open house on August 24, and a number of people noted that the house looked like a “cottage in the city.”
With a style that can suit almost anyone, Dubbin said it could appeal to buyers who would only use it for a primary residence or as a second, casual vacation home in the city.
Dubbin said buyers could develop it further and transform it also in a multi-family house.
Just 20 minutes west of the town centre, this house is between Princess of Wales Park and Sand Beach Road Parkette, and is five minute drive from Mimico GO station.
It is also close to Sherway Gardens, Humber College Lake Shore Campus and High Park.
