International praise for the project in a Latvian forest: Modern luxury of the future

The Pearl low-rise buildings, located in a wooded area by Lake Baltezers, are designed to make you feel like you are in a private villa with all of its amenities – spa, indoor pool, saunas, gym sports and, of course, the beautiful nature that you can see through the window looking at the calm waters in the distance and the green pines which calm your eyes and your mind. The complex consists of three connected buildings facing the lake on the south side and with a spacious courtyard on the northwest side.

The building is located just 20 minutes drive from the center of Riga, near the town of Adazi, in an area with prestigious villas, comfortable seaside restaurants, hotels, spas and boat rentals that offer many outdoor activities. Living in the quiet suburb of the Latvian capital is a luxury in itself, but The Perl offers even more: fresh air and water, an enchanting landscape and a pine forest to relax and recover. The smaller Lake Baltezers is connected to the larger lake by the Baltezers Canal, dug at the beginning of the 20th century. The Baltic Sea is accessible by water from the larger Lake Baltezers.

In search of new lines, rhythms, materials, shapes and proportions

“One of the most important characteristics of living spaces is comfort. We did our best to create a feeling of being close to the lake and the forest while staying inside the apartment. We wanted every inhabitant to look out the window and enjoy a view that makes you stop for a moment, ”said project developer, architect Juris Mitenbergs. He is also the founder and director of AB3D. The project has already gained international recognition; he was still in the design stage when he won the architectural competition for the future MIPIM in Cannes (2008) and a prize in the residential building category at the Architizer A + Awards in New York (2015). Having received so much praise for The Perl at Europe 40 under 40 (2010), Mitenbergs was ranked among the top forty young architects and designers in Europe. In his projects, Mitenbergs seeks to define spaces in both minimalist and expressive terms while respecting the environment to which the architectural solution corresponds or opposes. Its objective is to create emotions through architecture using simple forms and the possibilities offered by combinations and arrangements of forms. The search for new lines, rhythms, materials, shapes and proportions is the architect’s signature, evident in The Perl as well.

Blends in with the environment

The environment itself and the search for harmony with it suggested the right architectural concept. “The buildings have been designed taking into account the environment, the terrain and the lake shore, in order to preserve the pine forest as much as possible and to remain in harmony with the landscape. It does not matter whether it is in the city or in the countryside. The most important thing for me is to have an idea of what is right for a specific place and to develop a vision of what is best, so that the people who will be living there feel at home. We create spaces in which we would be happy to live ourselves, ”said the architect of this unique project. Usually, relatively small private villas are built on the shores of lakes. Therefore, it was a big challenge to create an apartment complex that blends into this particular environment. “Architecture without the architect’s ego is impossible. Without an architect, it is simply a trivial production. It was probably when we found the right materials for the facade (the right shade of wood that goes well with the colors of the forest) that I first thought we could really be successful. We had to be very careful when integrating such a large building into the existing environment, ”Mitenbergs said.

The luxury of The Perl comes down to the environment, the concept and every high quality detail. The facades are covered with a burnt Siberian larch and polyurethane treated which blends in with the color and texture of the pine trunks. The overall color scheme complements the natural surroundings – the pine trunks and roots, the chunks of wood washed up on the shore, and the calm lake, all reflected in the glass facade.

Comfort through exclusive luxury

Future residents will appreciate the apartments already fitted with high-quality ash and oak parquet floors, decorative concrete finishes and specially selected wallpapers. The architect created 3 different interior options, each stylistically consistent with the overall design of the building.

About half of apartment owners live there permanently. For others, it is a place of rest and vacation. Most apartments have a fireplace or jacuzzi. Almost all apartments have a view of the lake. There are 65 apartments with 2 or 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The penthouse apartments spread over two floors. No two apartments are identical in the building. Every apartment floor plan is different. They range from 67 to 211 m². The most luxurious apartments have large terraces of up to 200 m².

The house has 8 stairs and as many elevators to the underground car park. The above ground parking is reserved for customers’ vehicles. Residents of one or more apartments (if preferred) can enjoy the communal swimming pool, spa and saunas at the same time. The 24-hour concierge doesn’t just keep order; it provides protection and provides assistance, whether residents wish to hire a car or boat, order dinner, reserve a table at one of the restaurants in the nearby town of Adazi, or simply enter their apartment.

Exceptional luxury is guaranteed by the amazing scenery and the spacious courtyard. The bright facades and evening lights create a warm and peaceful atmosphere. In addition, each apartment has its own berth in the private lake marina.

Retail culture

“This project is an example of retail culture,” recalls the architect. It was a pleasure to work on it, because we have always sought the best and most precise solution and thought through every detail. “

While the authors of the project were selecting the right materials and equipment and coordinating the details, they stumbled upon the TECE range. All bathrooms have been fitted with TECE toilet modules and TECEloop flush plates. Their clean and refined style harmonizes perfectly with the three types of interior design.
