Iowa Husbands’ Biggest Fear Could Be This Contest [WATCH]

Forget baseball because I may have found America’s new favorite pastime.

I fell down a bit of an internet rabbit hole the other day after coming across a video from a previous Iowa State Fair competition. The video quickly went viral on Tik Tok and caused many non-Iowans to lose their minds over the hilarity of this contest.

Across the country, people are asking the question, “What is the husband calling and how can I get involved?”

Honestly, I ask the same question.

What does the husband even call?

Husband’s Call is an official competition held at the Iowa State Fair as part of their “Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions”. This tradition goes back more than 30 years, according to reports.

It reminds us of the days when you couldn’t send your partner a message asking when they would be home for dinner. Over the years, it’s become a hilarious, age-old tradition.

There are different kinds of “husband calls” that you could probably try. Some are higher pitched, others are just plain loud, but all are fun to listen to.

Last summer Dawn M Mennear of Des Moines ended up taking 1st place, Virginia Stone of Waukee came in 2nd and Dorothy Knox of Cedarfield and Cammie Pohl of Davenport tied for third place.

Mennear ended up trying something new in last year’s contest. Instead of calling her husband, she was calling to a husband.

In 2022, for the first time in the history of the competition, a man took the stage. His name is Jason Clayworth, a journalist from Axios, and he finished in 6th place in the last competition.
