Sleep like an 18th century earl

If you’re looking for a short midweek getaway, head straight to Falkirk. Between the town and the quaint little village of Dunmore you will find The Pineapple. This 18th century summer house, built for the 4th Earl of Dunmore, is topped with the giant sculpture and adorned with the fruit. The eye-catching dome was added in 1777 when the earl was forcibly returned to Scotland after serving as governor of Virginia – his own take on the tradition that sailors put a pineapple on the pole as a sign of their return home. It can accommodate four people, with availability June 2-4 for £ 657 (

Don’t forget to end a day at the beach by making your own s’mores in the property’s fire pit in the back garden. It can accommodate six people, with availability June 2-4 for £ 789 (
