LOS ANGELES – Is 2020 Turning Too Much? The last Blockbuster store on the planet is giving shoppers a chance to turn back the clock with a ’90s-themed slumber party, it was announced Tuesday.
An Airbnb listing for the video rental store in the northwestern state of Oregon promises to convert the store into a makeshift living room “with a sofa bed, ottomans and ottomans. pillows so you can relax with the “new versions” of the 90s. “
For only $ 4 a night, four places will be available over three nights in September.
“When you call dibs for this stay you are booking a night in the 90s, but this time you won’t have to beg your parents to rent the latest horror movie – we’ll give you the keys to the whole shop ! ” I promise.
The Bend, Oregon store is the last in a chain that had more than 9,000 outlets worldwide at its peak in the early 2000s.
Blockbuster suffered a precipitous decline with the advent of streaming platforms such as Netflix.
But the people of Bend stuck with his age-old process of finding physical DVDs and VHS tapes before sending them back to a slot a few days later.
It has also become a popular tourist destination.
In recent years, a never-ending stream of nostalgic fans have posed for selfies outdoors and have come to shop for kitschy candy and see retro movie memorabilia, most notably Russell Crowe’s jacket in “Les Miserables.”
But with the pandemic choking tourism, “we have missed the regular visits from friends, neighbors and tourists from all over the world,” the list says.
The ad promises to sanitize the store before each group of guests arrives and provide face coverings, sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer as well as free snacks and video games.
“And remember, the store is yours for the night!” it says. “So let go, blow up the boombox and wear your favorite ’90s denim to feel right at home in another era.”
