Latest UFO and Alien Sightings Reported to Devon and Cornwall Police

Today marks the annual World UFO Day, and “extraterrestrial sightings” have certainly not been lacking in recent years in Devon and Cornwall.

A Freedom of Information request to Devon and Cornwall Police revealed that 2020 saw the highest number of suspected UFO or alien sightings since 2015 with extraterrestrial events reported in places such as Plymouth, Exeter, Cullompton and Torquay.

Police were asked how many 999 or 101 force calls the force received in connection with suspected UFO or alien sightings from 2017, although a previous FOI also included numbers from 2015 and 2016.

In the past six years, there have been 24 reports to police when the appellant to police actually claimed to have seen an alien or a UFO.

However, of these, four of the reports were from people with mental health issues and therefore would not be indicative of extraterrestrial sightings.

Of the four, two incidents – in Falmouth and Plymouth in 2016 – also both involved individuals who were recorded as appearing heavily intoxicated, the response said, while one sighting in East Devon in 2018 was found to be a helicopter and a 2020 call in Illogan saw officers find no evidence of a UFO or drone.

This comes from the fact that it was recently reported that six in 10 Britons believe an alien invasion is inevitable and 80% have a plan to deal with it.

The study of 2,000 adults revealed what they would do if aliens visited us – including hiding under the bed, pretending to be outside, or just panicking.

In research commissioned by Beavertown ahead of World UFO Day, a study found that 63% would be welcome if they saw an alien and in fact, one in 20 claim to have seen one before, according to OnePoll figures.

Nick Pope, former head of the UFO investigation at the Department of Defense, said, “UFO sightings are on the rise, as is the belief in an extraterrestrial presence.

“On the occasion of World UFO Day, and with a UFO report sent to the US Congress, the topic has indeed come out of the fringe and into the mainstream.

“Until recently, people who believed in UFOs were considered conspiracy theorists. But with pilots, radar operators, and intelligence community personnel stepping forward and talking about their experiences, the topic is now taken seriously in government.

“We must remember that skeptics must be right every time, while believers only have to be right once.

“Are we alone or not in the universe? Are we visited by aliens?

“These are some of the most important and profound questions we can ask, and now we’re closer than ever to getting answers.”

Below is a list showing the year, location and summary of sightings reported to Devon and Cornwall Police, but it should be noted that the 2021 reports have yet to be released.
