Little Texas Cottage Honors ‘Most Hospitable’ Airbnb Host

A tiny cottage in Austin is home to the best Airbnb host in Texas.

In July, Airbnb released a list of the “most hospitable” hosts in each state. The Austin host duo of Jay and Jayne C. (no last name) took first place in Texas.

To earn this honor, Jay and Jayne had to:

  • Achieve 100% five-star ratings in the cleanliness, check-in and communication categories.
  • Attract at least 100 reviews. (A recent tally showed the co-op had surpassed 360 reviews, ranking it fourth among Airbnb properties in the United States)
  • Get the most reviews in Texas.

“After being made aware of this honor, Jayne told us that their high cleaning standards were passed down from her father, who owned a cleaning products business. As a result, they now employ an exceptional cleaner who is just as picky as them, ”Airbnb says in a press release.

Jay and Jayne welcome Airbnb guests to their Chicken Coop Tiny Cottage. The cottage, located about eight miles north of downtown North Central Austin, is truly a tiny space; it measures only 160 square feet. While the chalet (which actually doesn’t have chickens) may be small, the Airbnb listing is big on puns.

According to the list, the cottage’s chicken decor “makes a peaceful nest to perch your head,” while the tranquil courtyard and flowers “provide a great place to relax after a long day pecking around Austin.”

“Get up with the chickens (or not!)

To commemorate their guests, Jay and Jayne painted a mural on the back of the chalet where guests can leave their signatures and travel dates.

The couple try “to anticipate by providing everything someone might need or forget while traveling – from a toothbrush and bug spray to soft drinks and chocolates on the side of the bed,” says Airbnb.
