Liz Truss: Wild details hidden in Ryanair boarding pass for PM

The occupant of 10 Downing Street is packing her bags and looking for a break.

It didn’t take long for the trolling to begin – but some digs were more subtle than others.

Travel agencies were quick to take advantage of Liz Truss’ swift departure from the Prime Minister’s residence in Downing Street.

Package holiday company Thomas Cook has released a picture of the Prime Minister following a travel deal, less than an hour after news broke of the British Prime Minister’s resignation.

“I think she was rushing to catch her flight,” one comment joked, pointing out that the rude photoshop had cut off one of the prime minister’s heels.

“The sprint to the door is on,” replied Thomas Cook’s Facebook page.

Another Downing Street meme circulating was a “parody” ad for short-term rentals with Airbnb, although the rental website did not claim the image.

Other travel memes have been more carefully constructed.

Low-cost airline Ryanair usually discounted.

The Irish carrier’s Twitter issued a boarding pass for London Gatwick Premier to ‘Anywhere’. But, there were multiple levels to this public roasting via airfare.

The airline said the shortest PM in the country’s history would endorse the carrier’s “25-minute turnaround”.

Commentators praised the “wild” commentary, deciphering the jokes on the boarding pass. Beyond the 10D seat allocation, there were more subtle searches of 10 Downing Street hidden in the ticket.

The reference said PM1922, for the 1922 committee that oversaw his resignation.

The footage read “19” for the 19th Conservative politician to hold the post.

“In case anyone wonders if the QR code links to anything”…wrote an impressed comment.

The ticket led to a page with Google’s currency exchange, showing the rebound in the value of sterling after the news – a shot at the Prime Minister’s disastrous mini-budget that characterized his short tenure.

The Irish airline is known for its edgy social media style.

This is not the first boarding pass they have issued to the PM, during his short-lived tenure.

“You really seemed to be planning it,” another Twitter user replied.

“Impressive.”

The first boarding pass was issued on September 29, when Truss was named prime minister after a lackluster leadership race. It felt like a short trip.

“Reservation that dropped today?” The airline tweeted, with apparent confusion.

In a seemingly urgent job – the booking was made to ‘Tiz Lruss’, suggesting the new prime minister had been hastily appointed, boarding through the ‘back door’ – a thinly veiled commentary on the party’s haste to avoid a general election.

The itinerary was perhaps the most enigmatic of the clues, but said the most about Ryanair’s own stance on the Prime Minister and British politics.

FR 7137 “Lisbon to Dublin” was possibly a coded reference to the Lisbon Treaty or “Article 50”.

For non-European politics buffs, “Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union is the exit provision”.

It was known as the Lisbon Treaty, but was finally ratified by Ireland in Dublin in 2009.

AKA the “Brexit Bill” that the UK invoked in 2017 to leave the European Union.

As a European airline based in the Republic of Ireland – but with the majority of its business carrying UK passengers on flights between Europe and Britain – Ryanair was not a fan of Article 50.

Brexit has been a nightmare for European budget carriers.

It’s a farewell shot to Truss as Prime Minister who has promised to “enjoy the freedoms of Brexit”.

It was with mischievous joy that they said “goodbye” to him.
