Love Island stars know Gemma’s dad is Michael Owen, dumped roommate reveals

Viewers have been patiently waiting for Love Islander Gemma Owen to casually drop into a conversation that her father is none other than English football superstar Michael Owen and wow everyone. But Love Island’s Ikenna Ekwonna, one of the islanders to be dumped from the ITV2 dating show earlier this month, revealed that Gemma’s housemates may not have been as ignorant of her true identity as it seems.

Appearing on Sunday afternoon, he let viewers in on a few little villa secrets – including hinting that the islanders know more than they say about Gemma’s birth to footballing royalty. The Echo of Liverpool reports that Ikenna, a 23-year-old pharmaceutical salesman from Nottingham, admitted that the singles had known Gemma had a famous father from around “the second or third day” of the show’s start.

Gemma herself hasn’t revealed her father’s identity on the dating show, although many viewers are sure she’s dropping huge hints. Speaking to Love Island host Laura Whitmore, Ikenna said: “We didn’t really know until the second or third day. I don’t think the girls knew, the guys knew.”

Gemma was originally in a relationship with Liam Llewellyn, but he left the villa and the show after just a few days saying he didn’t feel like himself. As he left, Liam was surprised to learn of Gemma’s footballing DNA.

He said: “I can’t believe who it really was. It’s crazy.

“I’m a United fan. I actually had one of his tops when he came to the club.

“That first night we were talking about football and his family. I was so close. I can’t believe I didn’t quite make it.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub
