Manchester United fans react as Leeds United announce Daniel James transfer
Leeds United have announced the signing of Daniel James from Manchester United, securing the major transfer on deadline day.
The Welsh international joins what is said to be a club record for historic rivals United, becoming the ninth player to move from Old Trafford to Elland Road.
He leaves after a total of 74 appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, including two Premier League appearances this season that brought his league tally to half a century, scoring nine goals in the process.
The move comes full circle after the player saw a Swansea City move to Leeds drop dramatically on deadline day six months before his move to Manchester.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins unplugged the outlet at the eleventh hour in January 2019, with announcement photos with James already pictured and the player describing the situation as ‘crazy’.
The sequence of events was featured in Amazon’s’ Take Us Home ‘documentary which covered Leeds’ 2018/19 season.
Leeds saw the fun side of things by referencing this sequence of events in their announcements, posting a still image on social media of the documentary as well as using footage of the scenes in their announcement video.
The move sparked great interest on social media, with discussions among supporters, and many United fans wished James the best of luck.
Many shared memories of the 23-year-old Welshman’s highlights at the club, including the winger’s sensational debut.
His debut on the bench in a 4-0 win over Chelsea saw him score in his debut, scoring three goals in his first four appearances for United.
