Meet the Leeds students who set up Chunk Cookies
The perfect snack of the diss season
You have the food cravings, or maybe you just had a bad day, while there are many remedies, I found my new cure for all the ills of life: Chunk Cookies.
Chunk Cookies outshine any trip to Sainsbury’s or overpriced Deliveroo order. This small business born out of lockdown has quickly become a student favorite in Leeds. Founders and ‘cookie makers’, Amy and Diego started the business in Amy’s mother’s kitchen, but never predicted their cookies would become a staple in Hyde Park kitchens.
Their cookies are vegan, sustainably made and incredibly delicious. They sometimes sell out in 15 minutes and can be purchased from their online website. The Tab Leeds spoke to Amy and Diego to find out more.
They started their cookie journey in the middle of confinement
During lockdown, while you were sitting around doing nish, Amy and Diego were doing moves. They’ve crafted the perfect vegan cookie that not only tastes better than any locked banana bread, but arguably also tastes better than a non-vegan cookie. As Amy said, “We’re not bakers, we’re cookie makers”. And believe me, cookie makers they are. Their cookies are unreal.
Among the top-selling flavors are their S’mores cookie, which is Diego’s favorite, and their Bueno cookie, which is Amy’s favorite. They even have the sweet and salty cookie you didn’t know you needed, the salted caramel pretzel. Chunk Cookies made me wonder why I settled for another mediocre supermarket cookie.
Chunk Cookies are super durable
From recyclable packaging to Diego hand-delivering your cookies on a push bike, Chunk Cookies defines what it means to be sustainable in Leeds. Amy, an environmental business student, is constantly thinking of new ways to make Chunk both sustainable and ethical. While you may feel guilty for eating seven cookies in one sitting, you can rest easy knowing that everything but the sticker is recyclable. They even sell their leftover cookie dough in cookie dough jars.
The people behind Chunk Cookies
Aside from delicious cookies, the masterminds behind Chunk are just as amazing. They pride themselves on getting to know their customers, which is why instead of a Deliveroo or UberEats driver, you’ll find Diego at your doorstep. Since 2020, Amy and Diego have been baking the cookies themselves in their kitchen in Hyde Park and delivering them straight to your door.
They really are the perfect combination of good quality ingredients and exceptional service. Amy and Diego want to keep their cookies accessible, with affordable prices and amazing flavors. And if over 4,000 followers aren’t enough to convince you of their cookie fame, they’ve even been recognized at Aldi.
At the heart of this ever-growing company are two amazing people creating a brand of cookies that is trustworthy, reliable and delicious. Having met on a banana farm in rural Queensland, they could never have predicted finding such success in biscuit making.
Chunk overtakes Hyde Park!
From a small kitchen in the terraces of Hyde Park, Chunk Cookies has traveled farther than Amy and Diego, with people placing orders from the Isle of Man and even the Highlands. Amy and Diego have also hit big milestones in selling their cookies at Kirkgate Market. “We couldn’t believe people had come to Kirkgate just to buy our cookies.” They even plan to continue their expansion, with the possibility of opening their first bakery in Hyde Park very soon.
To order Chunk Cookies, see their website. You can also find them on instagram. You will also find retailers and cafes selling Chunk Cookies, take a look at their Instagram for more.
So stop subjecting yourself to poor cookies. You deserve good cookies made by good people with good ingredients. And that’s exactly what Chunk is.
