Megan Turnbull quits her job as a solicitor in Leetsdale

Leetsdale needs a lawyer.

Attorney Megan Turnbull, who has provided legal services to the borough for more than 10 years, has tendered her resignation.

The board discussed his departure at a shop meeting on Oct. 6.

Members plan to vote to accept the resignation, along with a motion to announce a request for attorneys’ proposals, at the Oct. 13 meeting.

Turnbull was not at the studio, but spoke about his decision to leave via email.

“My responsibilities within the company and my work for other clients have gotten to the point where I have to make tough choices about the best use of my time and energy,” she said. . “I wish Leetsdale well and look forward to reading about their future community successes.

“I said I would stay until they found a new lawyer. My goal is December 1st. I have shared a voucher (request for proposal) for them to fit.

Turnbull is a partner at Weiss Burkardt Kramer LLC, where she works as an attorney for municipalities, school districts, and nonprofit organizations. She also acts as labor lawyer and special counsel, and manages the firm’s tax assessment and tax collection practice groups.

Board Chair Patricia Lee is one of the newest elected officers. She is in her first year on the council and thanked the lawyer for her services.

“Ms. Turnbull has been diligent and passionate about the services she has provided to the Leetsdale community,” said Lee. “We appreciate the services provided over the years and wish her every success. She was instrumental in my transition as a new elected member and Chair of the Board and was very patient and supportive with myself and my peers.

Other board members, including Osman Awad, have also praised Turnbull’s legal skills and plan to do their due diligence to find a suitable replacement.

“(We want) someone to serve our community as expected,” Awad said.

Borough Secretary Jennifer Simek said she received Turnbull’s letter of resignation from her company on September 26.

His monthly installment was $2,700.

The borough has budgeted around $34,200 for legal fees this year, according to borough acts.

Board members said at least one legal matter awaits their new lawyer, an AirBnB order to regulate short-term rentals.

Borough officials are reviewing bylaws adopted by other communities and have not begun the process of drafting Leetsdale’s own rules.
