Minnesota Dog takes first place in this category at Westminster

Congratulations to a dog and his owners from southern Minnesota, as the Pine Island pooch took top honors in the athletic category at Westminster’s Dog Show!

4 year old English Setter named Belle won first prize among 558 Sporting Group entries at the 146th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show yesterday, June 22.

The dog show, held in New York City, ran from June 20-22, with the final day designated for best-in-group and best-in-show.

The owners of the award-winning ferryman are Van Jacobsen & Lee Afdahl & Amanda & Vito Ciaravino according to the Westminster Kennel Club website.

Belle did not finish first overall, she was beaten by a sleuth named FLESSNER’S TOOT MY OWN HORNof St. Joseph, Illinois.

According to a Westminster Kennel Club press release, the dog show is “the second continuously held sporting event in the United States” and this year saw the event return to New York after being moved from New York l last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

There were two new breeds of dogs added to this year’s show, they were the Mudi “all-purpose farm dog from Hungary” and the Russian Toy.
