Luis Lima, 44, was taken into custody on Wednesday for the murder of Ellida Ferreira, 26, the mother of his six-month-old son.

Neighbors told police gunshots were in the building, but none of the tenants reported it.

A building security camera showed Lima in the lobby with an empty laundry cart at 9:43 p.m. and captured him again four minutes later pushing the cart with his wife’s body completely covered in sheets.

Lima placed the body in his vehicle and drove off at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, eventually abandoning Ferreira’s body in a stream in Parque do Cormo.

He returned to the apartment about four hours later with his son.

Police found the body wrapped in plastic on Tuesday.

Lima tried to cover up the murder by reporting his wife missing on Friday night, Brazilian news outlet G1 reported.

He told police he had not heard from Ferreira after she left their home to visit family in Campinas, a town in the northwest of the state.

“She left for Campinas, sent the last message at 7:51 p.m. saying they only had 5% battery. At 10:39 p.m. I texted again and it was not seen and the calls went straight to voicemail,’ Lima said in the report. “In contact with my sister-in-law and the mother of the missing reported that she had not arrived at their home in Campinas.”

Lima also told police he had searched bus stations, hospitals and police stations in the hope of finding his wife, to whom he had been married for a year.

Authorities believe Lima may have murdered Ferreira out of jealousy.
