My scariest roller coaster ride was on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean

I wouldn’t say I consider myself an adrenaline junkie, but sometimes I feel the need to feel my stomach churning in my throat.

Local music festival teacups are usually where I draw the line when it comes to roller coasters after my experience with the Anaconda at City of the Golden Reef. No, my seat didn’t malfunction, nor did I fall or anything, that’s how my heart pounded in my ears during all the bouncing. With a fear factor rating of 9 out of 10, I never thought the day would come when I would experience a more terrifying ride.

I was so wrong.

Who knew that more than a decade later, I would find myself clutching the edge of my seat with white knuckles, screaming like a banshee.

Imagine my relief when, after the hydraulic seats came to rest and the VR goggles were removed from my head, I found myself on board the norwegian prima and not rushing around a mountain on a very unstable cart at 100 km/h fighting the enemy along the way.

It was her maiden cruise that departed from Reykjavik, Iceland. We were en route to Amsterdam in the Netherlands with scheduled stops in Cork, Ireland, Weymouth, England and Le Havre, France.

What to do on Norwegian Prima

The state-of-the-art virtual reality roller coaster Galaxy Pavilion aboard Norwegian Prima is just one of the exciting new activities young and old alike will enjoy while cruising on this unique new cruise ship.

If you’re a speed freak, you’ll love to ride a go-kart on the Prima Speedway, the largest and first-ever three-level racecourse built on top of a cruise ship. There’s nothing more exhilarating than hurtling down 420m straight away as you race against 14 other racers as you navigate through 14 tight turns at 50km/h.

The fun doesn’t end there, however. One of my favorite activities was the Rush & Drop – the fastest dry slides at sea! Usually you’d want to get wet and wild on the super tube, but there’s nothing more exciting than dropping 10 levels before going to dinner.

If you prefer to relax, a stroll along Ocean Boulevard, a 44,000 square meter outdoor walkway that wraps around the entire ship, is the perfect activity to start your morning or end your afternoon watching the sun set. sunset over the dark waters of the Atlantic.

Boarding Norwegian Prima is basically like checking into a five-star vacation resort, except that you’ll wake up in a different country most mornings.

Although the recently launched Norwegian Prima may not be the largest cruise ship in the world, it is the most spacious with the most exterior deck space of any new cruise ship.

Speaking to the media at the inaugural launch, Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, said the idea for the ship’s design and luxury was actually inspired by resorts. Sommer said they want to create more intimate, upscale spaces for customers because the trend is towards people not wanting to be surrounded by thousands of other people in a large, crowded space.

There are several intimate high-end sun decks on the ship instead of just one large sun deck at the top of the ship, which is a really good design.

I enjoyed exploring the various cocktail bars and pools dotted around the various decks of the ship.

Food galore

There are 22 dining rooms on board, which means you can literally eat out at a different restaurant for almost every meal during your vacation.

The Surfside Café was a big hit with its incredible seafood display, while the Indulge Food Hall alone offered 11 different dining options, making it a very popular lunch spot.

Besides the public restaurants, there are also various fine dining restaurants on board the ship.

If you want steak, Cagney’s Steakhouse is the place to book. This American-style steakhouse serves choice cuts of Angus beef like the traditional T-bone or tender prime rib. The famous truffle fries are a must when you dine there.

If you’re in the mood for French cuisine, an evening at the Bistro is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip. Offering platinum service and French champagne, your taste buds will be in heaven, especially once the dishes have arrived.

Entertainment onboard Norwegian Prima

If you’re not ready to call it an after-dinner night, you can try your luck at the casino or head to Syd Norman’s Pour House where you can sing along to your favorite hits performed by the waiters.

If it’s your booty you want to shake, no problem, as the Prima Theater transforms from a three-story theater into a spectacular nightclub where you can dance the night away. Norwegian Prima’s godmother, pop star Katy Perry, performed live for guests on the inaugural cruise. Pop star and fiancée Orlando Bloom cruised with guests after Katy’s performance.

Rest assured that when you go to bed after your exhilarating day, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and the spa not too far away for that much-needed massage the next morning.
