New Czech government will decide to forge ties with Russia
Relations would be built on the basis of mutual respect and would be pragmatic if possible, noted Jakub Kulhanek.
The decision on how to develop relations with Russia is expected to be taken by the government of the Czech Republic, which will be put in place after the October elections to the lower house of parliament, Foreign Minister Jakub said on Sunday. Kulhanek.
“I don’t think it’s possible to accept the idea that we won’t have relations with Russia,” Kulhanek told the Czech news agency.
“Relations would be built on the basis of mutual respect and would be pragmatic if possible. A decision on how they will be built, in my opinion, is up to the future government [of the Czech Republic, which will be set up after the parliamentary polls]. He should say how to build our relationship, ”he said.
According to the Czech side, one of the conditions for launching the dialogue between Prague and Moscow is to remove the Czech Republic from the Russian list of hostile states, where it appeared alongside the United States. Kulhanek says the move goes against the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
On April 22, the two sides agreed that their diplomatic representations would be reduced to strict parity, with each mission comprising seven diplomats and 25 technicians.
The Russian government officially declared on May 14 that the Czech Republic and the United States were “unfriendly” states.
The diplomatic row began in April, when the Czech government accused Russian intelligence operatives of two explosions at a military weapons depot in the eastern Czech Republic in October 2014.
Two Czech citizens were killed in the explosions, which Prague said were aimed at destroying ammunition that had been sold to Ukraine.
