New York man killed in Orange County on his birthday ‘doing what he loved’

A New York man lost his life on his birthday “doing what he loved” in the Hudson Valley.

Imanol Jimenez, 23, of New York, died on Wednesday June 1 following a motorcycle accident in the city of Cornwall. The City of Cornwall Police Department investigated the fatal motorcycle accident on New York State Route 218, just north of Highpoint Lookout.

Police believe Jimenez fell about 300 feet from a cliff in Orange County. Around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, a 911 reported a motorcycle accident on State Route 218 in Cornwall. Police were told the crash caused the motorbike driver to fall onto the rock wall guide rail.

The City of Cornwall Police Department responded to the scene. Cornwall police say “two quick-thinking New York State Troopers” responded to the base of the mountain along the Hudson River.

The two New York State Police troopers found the driver of the motorcycle a mile north of the Cornwall Yacht Club.

Officials believe the man fell approximately 300 feet from Route 218 to the base of the mountain. Authorities believe the driver’s speed and inexperience were the main contributing factors to the accident.

The Hudson Valley Post learned that Jiminez died on his birthday, after reporting on the fatal crash in Cornwall.

“Imanol left this world on his birthday, June 1, doing what he loved: biking Storm King Mountain,” Kevin Mesa wrote in a GoFundMe he created to support the family of Imanol.

Friends remember Imanol for his enthusiasm, his energy, his love for driving, his quickness to help, being silly but adorable, his contagious laugh, his innocence, his welcoming atmosphere and above all his friendship. We will miss you Imanol and we will never forget that smile or that laugh in the communicator,” Mesa wrote on the GoFundMe.
