International travel has seen a strong recovery in 2022, a trend that is expected to continue to rise in 2023, Airbnb’s roundup of top trends revealed, with Indians seeking the world’s most iconic cities and solo travel emerging as the popular international travel type from the third quarter (October-December) of 2022, followed by couple and family travel.

Benefiting local communities by traveling to off-the-beaten-track destinations will further aid tourism recovery, Airbnb said, observing that nationwide, Indians are exploring off-beat destinations in states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Telangana.

Dubai, London, Paris, Toronto and New York were the most searched destinations internationally by Indian customers in the third quarter of 2022.

”In India, hospitality is deeply rooted in the diversity of local culture, cuisine, lifestyle preferences and the way we welcome people into our homes. Delhi, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh topped the hospitality rankings, with the largest share of 5-star guest reviews on Airbnb.

Airbnb data also revealed that guests have opted to enjoy city life as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata were the top domestic destinations for Indians in 2022.

In 2022, travelers found themselves sitting by the pool or taking rays on a sandy beach. These two water-related categories were taking the top spots among Indian travellers, with tropical and iconic cities and national parks also popping up, he said.

The top five hosts in India with the highest number of bookings in 2022 were from Mumbai (Maharashtra), New Delhi (Delhi), Guwahati (Assam), Goa and (Hyderabad) Telangana, according to Airbnb data.
