Police are still trying to determine how Berlin, CT, a woman died
His cause of death was still under investigation as of Tuesday morning, according to the state’s chief medical examiner, James Gill.
Clement’s death was discovered after a passing motorist called police around 9 a.m. Saturday to report a distraught man sitting on the side of Deming Road who appeared unwell, Lt. Drew Gallup said. The man, who is Clement’s son, told responding officers that his mother died inside the home, Gallup said.
The discovery of the woman’s body prompted a heavy police presence that included the state’s crime scene truck at the home for nearly eight hours on Saturday. The investigation is focused on the woman’s death, police said. His cause of death was not immediately apparent, police said in a statement released Saturday.
The son and Clement lived together, Gallup said.
Neighbors told police on Saturday it had been at least a year since they had seen Clément outside tending to his gardens. “She was very nice,” said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. “They were very private and we didn’t talk much but I saw her when she was working in the garden.”
A second neighbor said she told officers she couldn’t remember the last time she saw Clement, it had been so long.
Police declined to provide details of the death, citing the ongoing investigation. Clement lived at the address for several years and his son attended local schools, Berlin residents said.
