Prague City Council has approved proposals regulating short-term rentals, most often brokered by Airbnb, requiring them to provide data on rented apartments, their owners and their intermediaries, Czech radio reported.
Prague city councilors want anyone arranging short-term accommodation through online platforms to provide relevant information to the Municipal Business Licensing Office upon request.
An owner who has not registered a proper business license may be subject to a fine of up to 1 million CZK (approximately 39,384 EUR). For the proposals to become law, parliament would have to change some laws that would, for example, allow municipalities to use data to enforce payment of residence fees, Czech radio said.
