Presentations and demands made to Emery County Commissioners – ETV News

Miss Emery County Royalty, past and present, opened the Emery County Commission meeting with a presentation Tuesday afternoon. Commissioner Kent Wilson commented that the competition had been a fantastic two days and that he was very impressed with the level of talent of these young girls. He invited them to come to the meeting to thank them and their competition leaders for their service. The girls spoke about their personal growth and experiences while entering the contest. They also talked about their platforms.
Ignacio Arrien then addressed the commissioners regarding the purchase of new fire trucks for the fire district. He asked for their review of the PILT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) funds the county has received. He said he was working on a fire truck refurbishment program and had two trucks, Green River and Cleveland, funded by Community Impact Board funds. Arrien discovered that it is better to buy new trucks than to refurbish old trucks.
He hopes to cycle through the program, doing two trucks each year. Castle Dale and Huntington would be next with Ferron, Elmo, Emery and Orangeville to follow. Arrien wants to keep $ 400,000 for an emergency. Commissioner Wilson said the money is typically used for higher education financial institutions, but last year it all went to emergency services. He also added that they have 60 days to decide what to do with the PILT money they received, which stood at $ 209,000 last year.
Commissioners said they would discuss the matter further and come back to Arrien and the Fire District.
Captain Ekker of the Sheriff’s Office then approached the commission to seek approval of Emery County’s 2021 Emergency Management Planning Grant application. This is an annual grant that provides additional funds for training and equipment. This was approved by the commission. The next grant application was news that would provide funds for a canine bulletproof vest. Captain Ekker explained that this is a valuable asset to the sheriff’s office. Approval has been granted.
Next, a commercial license pre-approved by the Land Use Committee for Millsite House Airbnb was granted by the commissioners.
The next three items on the agenda were the disposition of real estate owed by Emery County to Ferron, Orangeville and Green River. Commissioners begin the sale process by sending letters to adjacent landowners of the three plots, posting an ad notice and accepting sealed offers. Bids will be opened and awarded at the committee meeting on August 17. If for some reason the highest bidder is unable to secure financing, the bid will go to the second highest bid based on attorney approval.
An Emery County Event Rockwall Use and Risk Assumption Release form has been approved. Cities that use this wall will need to sign this form. A resolution authorizing the filing of cross-appeals for 2021 centrally assessed properties filed by Centurylink, Inc. has been passed. This allows the board to appeal filings from centrally valued properties such as PacifiCorp.
Sheriff Greg Funk has announced that the Emery County Search and Rescue Triathlon and Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled for July 16 and 17. Dinner will be held Friday night with the triathlon on Saturday at Huntington North State Park. This is the only search and rescue fundraiser in Emery County this year.
In closing, Commissioner Wilson said that in August he invited the State Tax Commission in Emery County to make a presentation on increasing the valuation of private property as rates for central valuation are declining. He also announced that there will only be one committee meeting in August and it will be August 17. There will be no committee meeting on August 3.
