Rapper BFG Straap shot and killed in Dallas

Popular East Dallas rapper BFG Straap died of his injuries after he was shot Thursday afternoon in South Dallas. He was 22 years old.

BFG Straap, born Antywon Dillard, and Cory Lucien, 26, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen between Casey Street and South Malcolm X Boulevard. Police were dispatched at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according The Dallas Morning News. Dillard died in hospital. Lucien died at the scene.

BFG Straap, who was best known for his song “I’m Good”, was born on January 7, 2000, while his mother was incarcerated, according to his site biography, and grew up poor. Straap turned to music as a teenager after the death of a close friend and began his music career in 2016. He first gained recognition with the release of his 2019 song “Las Vegas“, in later collaborating with fellow DFW rappers Trapboy Freddy, Lil CJ Kasino, SSG Splurge and BigXThaPlug.

DaBaby’s producer Jetsonmade guided him early in his career after hearing the young hip-hop artist’s signature cadence and talent for lyricism.

In August, Straap released his album 11:11which featured his latest video, “Everyday 420”.

Tributes to the late rap star have since flooded social media.

“Rip fam transformed the whole city from start to finish,” @moneyboybhris_ said in the comments of the Instagram post that broke the news, owned by blogger beezytvdigital.

“Damn, I was hoping lil nig— made it. Hang out with Sweeney and Jay,” @Dee_roney_ said on the post.

One Instagram user commented, “Damn bro was talented fr. There’s been too many rappers we all listen to in our generation getting killed by gun violence, getting shot like wtf can’t last too long,” another Instagram user said in the comments of the same. post.

Graphic crime scene video surfaced on social media immediately after the shooting, showing Lucien’s body with multiple gunshot wounds.

After news of Straap’s passing hit the internet, Oak Cliff rapper and longtime BFG Straap rival Numbaa 7 shared a since-deleted Instagram Story who plays Miley Cyrus’ hit “Party in the USA”. The song is presumably a reference to BFG Straap’s Instagram username, @straapUSA2.

Numbaa 7 would follow this story with another.

“Somebody get me a bowl. I’ve got the bottles, I’ve got bottles coming in,” he says, looking into the phone’s camera lens. “Bring me a bowl. We smoke the bowl. I promise everyone to have little. Shoot me, let’s go. And find me an AirBnB outlet, we’re popping the bottle all night. You better not tell me to relax.

No arrests were made during Thursday’s shooting.
