Region of Merseyside where people like to live despite its ‘harsh’ reputation
One woman shared her love for the area she lives in, despite being described as ‘rough’.
Fingerpost is a small area close to the center of St Helens, and despite alleged ‘stigma’ around the area with some calling it brutal – many who live in the area say they love living there and have never had of problems.
A woman, who moved to the area three years ago, has taken to social media to share how, despite the initial apprehension she faced, she now loves the area and calls it home. She also posed a question to other people living in St Helens, which led to a wider discussion – which area did you think was the most ‘difficult’ before moving, and what do you like about it now?

The post received a flurry of comments, with many sharing what makes the area they live in special to them, despite preconceptions.
One comment said: “It’s never the area but the individuals, I’ve lived in many areas classified as difficult and have made good friends in those areas, people make the area not the area make people.”
One person, who says their family has lived in Fingerpost for over 80 years, shared their perspective on the community and said, “All my family are from Fingerpost and we’ve never had a problem. My mother still lived there until last year. , 81 years old. I don’t live far now either. Neighbors and residents should stick together, and if neighborhoods have issues, keep complaining until they’re sorted.
Neighboring Parr has had a growing problem with anti-social behavior in recent months, along with the town center itself, but for many these are seen as isolated incidents and not reflective of the town as a whole.
One incident in particular that caused widespread outrage was the vicious attack on a delivery driver outside McDonald’s earlier this month.
Another comment said on the Facebook post: “Each area has good and bad points no matter where you go. I’ve lived in Parr all my life in different parts of Parr, closer to Fingerpost now. I I’ve had good and bad experiences everywhere I’ve lived in Parr.”
