RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG closes first half of 2021 with increased turnover

In the first half of 2021, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG’s efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic continued unabated. Dr Christian Höftberger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG, said: “Once again the pandemic has presented us with extraordinary tasks. From January to June 2021, a total of 414,489 patients were treated in our hospitals, 5.1% more than the same period last year (previous year, 2020: 394,558). The turnover of the RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG group in the first half of the year amounted to 682.8 million euros (previous year, 2020: 670.5 million euros). At 46.5 million euros, EBITDA exceeded the previous year’s level of 35.5 million euros. The EBITDA margin is 6.8%. Taking into account depreciation, financing costs and taxes, the EBITDA resulted in a consolidated profit of + € 8.6 million, after – € 3.7 million the previous year.

Synergies create sustainable business success

RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG’s strategic partnership with Asklepios continues at a steady pace. The sense of common or “together” identity, networking and mutual transfer of know-how within the new group of companies continue to grow and open up new opportunities for all companies under the umbrella of the Asklepios group.

RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is also looking for synergies with its service companies. From now on, the Company will merge and pool in-house services and skills from the fields of medical technology and technology, sterile processing (RUMED) and catering at the hospital sites in Bad Neustadt ad Saale, Bad Berka and Frankfurt (Oder) in the Service companies of the group RHÖN-KLINIKUM Services GmbH and RHÖN-Cateringgesellschaft mbH. Reinforcement of telematics infrastructures (IT)

An advanced medical case is no longer conceivable without the use of information technology. And the digitization of the health system is the statutory mandate required of all hospitals. It enables new computer applications such as electronic patient records, electronic medication planning, emergency management or teleconsultants, all designed to improve patient care and make clinical processes more efficient.

In this context, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is making substantial investments in digitization. This means completely reorganizing network technology, server and data management as well as medical technology and healthcare systems and creating new interfaces – a huge challenge for large and complex hospitals like RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.
