Room2 Hotel Reviews, Chiswick – Times Travel

This is a hotel that has clearly thought long and hard about what its guests want. Twenty-four-hour stays are standard, rooms have kitchenettes to cut down on unnecessary dining expenses, and there’s plenty of personality in its quirky decor. Green dots are marked for its sustainability efforts and the location puts you in a prime position to get to the South Rim in less than half an hour, while still being close to London attractions such as Kew Gardens and Notting Hill.

A room at Room2 Chiswick

Price

Rooms start from £189 per night for two people staying in a Comfort Room. Former hotel guests can enjoy a free room-only stay on their birthday.

The backstory

A former wallpaper factory transformed into a hipster “hometel” aims to combine the best of an Airbnb with the charm of a boutique hotel. It’s the work of two Olympic sailors, Robert and Stuart Godwin, who wanted to create a brand of more residential hotels and clearly wanted to give some substance to the phrase ‘just like home’. Those looking for the latter may well find it here; stays are available from one day to one year.

Location

Morning runs or evening walks are well organized with this location on the doorstep of Chiswick Common. There are plenty of independent shops to dive into on Chiswick High Road and a handful of restaurants and pubs. The nearest station is Chiswick, a ten minute walk from the hotel, and from there you can go straight to Waterloo or stroll to Kensington and Notting Hill. Even closer is Turnham Green tube station, an eight-minute walk from Room2.

The rooms

A retro vibe runs through the 89 studios inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement. Expect many surprises; artistic wallpaper in the bathroom, tasseled lampshades and playful throws from quirky Los Angeles brand Slowdown Studio, and lots of burnt oranges and salmon pinks. There are different options depending on your price: Snug, Studio, Lounge and Suite.

Services and facilities

Head to the basement for a small but compact gym equipped with Peloton bikes, assault rowers, and weight areas. You’ll also find a bright bathroom with ironing and drying facilities and plenty of quiet spots for remote work. Friendly staff are always on hand and happy to help at the 24-hour reception.

Food and drink

Not much going on in terms of food and drink. A basic breakfast of pastries and cereals is available and charged item by item. Lunch options cost around £7 and include bagels and sandwiches.

Sustainability

The roof hums with 75,000 bees creating local honey and supporting Chiswick’s biodiversity. Back inside, there is a zero waste policy and each studio comes with mats made from fishing nets and suitable recycling bins. Thanks to all of its sustainability efforts, Room2 claims it uses 89% less energy than other typical hotels in the UK. Smart showers use around 40% less water, solar panels on the roof cover the lighting and heating for the bar and lounge, and all of the building’s energy comes from renewable sources. Another nice touch can be found in the furniture and decoration: local craftsmanship has been used as much as possible and each piece is carefully chosen; it is made within ten miles using only natural materials.

Accessibility

There are two accessible bedrooms, the pillow cushions vibrate in the event of a fire alarm and there is a hearing loop in reception for those who wear hearing aids. All staff have undergone disability awareness training. Note that some parts of the building have low lighting to avoid unnecessary energy consumption.

Friendly and family

Kitchen facilities are still handy for families, and bedrooms have sofas, so there’s plenty of space to relax. There aren’t many facilities for young children or babies, though cots can be requested.

Value for money

Each studio is equipped with a kitchenette – so you feel like you get all the benefits of an apartment without the usually higher cost. You’ll save money staying and cooking, but as it’s not a central hotel, you might end up paying more than usual to get to central London.

Why book

A handy base in a friendly part of London if you’re looking for something that straddles a hotel and apartment and aren’t too concerned about a city center location.
