The New Years Eve time will still have some isolated showers and gusty winds, but mostly dry around New Years dawn. Bad weather will remain the main concern on Saturday evening. Another wave of severe weather is possible this weekend. Get the latest forecast in the video above. —NEW YEAR, NEW THREAT A powerful storm system will kick in on New Years Day. Severe thunderstorms are possible from 3:00 PM Saturday to 9:00 AM Sunday for all of central Alabama. Threats will include tornadoes, destructive winds and quarter-sized hail. Strong to severe storms will be possible Saturday afternoon / evening and overnight. Damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, hail and heavy rainfall will be possible with these storms. Some tornadoes can be strong. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings! Now take the time to review your severe weather safety plan. 7-DAY FORECAST The threat of strong to severe thunderstorms will increase from Saturday to Saturday evening, with a strong cold front moving southeast across the region. Destructive winds, large hail and tornadoes, some of which could be strong, will be possible during this time. Additionally, multiple rounds of heavy rains in the same areas can result in a flash flood threat. Southerly winds will be gusting past this front throughout the day on Saturday with sustained winds near 15 to 25 mph and gusting to nearly 35 mph. A powerful storm system will come into play on New Years Day. Severe thunderstorms will be possible from 3:00 p.m. Saturday to 9:00 a.m. Sunday for all of central Alabama. Threats will include tornadoes, destructive winds and quarter-sized hail.
