Shocked woman calls police after finding hidden camera in Airbnb host’s bathroom

A woman staying at an Airbnb was shocked to find a tiny camera set up in the bathroom – so she immediately called the police.

Brittany Walsh @brittany..walsh made a TikTok video about the grim discovery at the Texas property, explaining how she found the secret camera.

In the clip, an officer stands in the living room with a notepad and Brittany holds the device so you can see it clearly.

The secret camera plugs directly into the wall and appears to have an SD card slot where footage would be stored.

Brittany said she went to the bathroom as soon as she entered the Airbnb, which meant that one of the other guests staying with her would not have had time to install a camera since they had arrived the same time.

The small camera went unnoticed at first

“It was there when I arrived,” she wrote in a March 2 update.

Brittany and her friend took showers before the camera was discovered by her friend’s boyfriend.

Airbnb policy states that hosts can install security cameras in “common areas” as long as they fully disclose it to guests, but the devices should never monitor bedrooms, bathrooms, or other areas. Sleeping.

Brittany, who doesn’t believe the property owner planted the camera, said Airbnb reimbursed her and her friends for their entire stay.

She said: “I will definitely stay at Airbnb again, I think it’s just better bang for your buck, especially if you’re staying with a group.

“And again, whoever planted that camera, if the police find out who did it, they’ll be charged and it’s a felony in Texas for invasive visual recordings.”

The video has been viewed over 10 million times and people have been horrified by the idea of secret cameras.

One user said: “When I’m cleaning I always check for stuff like this. It’s so scary. I’m sorry you went through this.”

“It’s always my worst fear to go to Airbnbs or even hotels,” confessed a second Internet user.

A third commented: ‘Working at Amazon I see people ordering a lot, it’s scary.’

Brittany reminded people that it was “incredibly wrong” to believe it was okay to secretly film someone in a bathroom, which some people had claimed in the comments.

Someone else agreed: ‘It’s terrifying that there are people in the comments who think taping in a bathroom is legal.’

An Airbnb spokesperson told the Daily Star: “Airbnb strictly prohibits ‘hidden cameras’ and recording devices of any kind in private areas such as bathrooms and bedrooms.

“We take this allegation very seriously and our dedicated security team is investigating it thoroughly.”
