Spectacular forest garden to be created in Birmingham city center next year
A spectacular forest garden used to represent diversity is set to open in Birmingham city center in 2022.
The monumental pop-up, known as “PoliNations”, is a celebration of multiculturalism through the biodiversity of plant life.
The immersive forest will be filled with real and architectural trees as well as plants, herbs and flowers grown in collaboration with local communities.

From daisies to horse chestnut trees and dahlias to English rose, many plants that we consider part of the British landscape are native to overseas.
PoliNations, which is also part of the Birmingham 2022 festival, will celebrate the global origins of plants and people in the UK. It will offer immersive installations, live music, lectures and performances next summer and fall.
The event will end with a party that reunites the spirit of Notting Hill Carnival, Pride and Mela with the joyous anarchy of Songkran celebrations in Thailand and the Hindu Holi festival.
It is produced by Trigger Collective and directed by the Bristol-based arts organization Trigger and draws on experts in the fields of horticulture, science, architecture and the arts.
The exact location and date details were not known, but have been booked for next summer and fall, with more details expected for the New Year.
“PoliNations celebrates the color and vibrancy that plants and flowers have brought to the UK and invites us to reimagine our cities as greener and wilder places,” said Angie Bual, Creative Director of PoliNations and Co-Director of Trigger Collective.
“Combining engineering, horticulture, theater and music from around the world, PoliNations is a spectacular co-cultivated forest garden that will ignite the senses and deepen understanding of our shared history, bringing together people from all walks of life with a completely unforgettable finish. “
Further details on the location of the forest are expected to be released in the new year.
PoliNations is part of Unboxed – a celebration of creativity – which will see ten large multi-site and digital creative projects sharing new ideas and possibilities for the future appear in the UK in 2022.
The large-scale free events, digital installations and experiences accessible worldwide in the UK have been produced by some of the brightest minds in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
