Spirit Airlines (SAVE) begins service from Miami Airport
With the demand for air travel in the United States improving as more people get vaccinated, Spirit Airlines, Inc. SAVE launched its first flights from Miami International Airport. The first arriving flight landed in Miami from Atlantic City and the first departure was to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. To celebrate the launch, the airline will be offering 31 pairs (to members of the Free Spirit loyalty program) of round-trip tickets in honor of each of its non-stop flights from Miami.
In the event that the expansion materializes, Spirit Airlines’ service to Miami Airport will expand to include 31 non-stop options (20 domestic and 11 international markets) from current levels by the end of the expansions. In addition, starting November 17, a new daily non-stop route will connect Miami International Airport to Barranquilla. , Boston, Cali, Chicago O’Hare, Cleveland, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Hartford-Bradley, Houston, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham and San Juan. Starting the same day, two services to New York LaGuardia (twice a day) and Tegucigalpa-Palmerola (four times a week) will also begin from Miami. Services to San Pedro Sula (three times a week) will start from November 18. Flights to San José (four times a week) will begin from January 5. the week.
The expansion program is primarily aimed at meeting the increased demand for air travel and increasing the company’s revenue. We note that Spirit Airlines is not the only carrier to have announced route extensions, driven by increased travel demand. Carriers like JetBlue Airways JBLU, Delta Air Lines DAL and Allegiant Travel Company ALGT recently unveiled similar plans.
