Stay at Airbnb’s ‘UK’s most haunted property’ where 600-year-old ghosts roam the halls
As the stage of the third lockdown draws to a close, most people will look to a fun summer vacation on the beach or on the hills.
But for the more daring adventurer, a 600-year-old York house said to be haunted by ghosts might be better suited.
The Trembling Madness Apartments are located in the shadow of York Minster behind “The House of Trembling Madness” in a hidden courtyard. The rooms are built on the remains of the first Norman house built in 1180 AD.
Based in York which is a city with a dark past filled with poverty, torture and even death.

It has even been declared “the most haunted city in Europe” by the International Ghost Research Foundation because of its bloody history and more than 500 hauntings reported within the ancient city walls.
Even as recently as the 1950s, ghosts have been sighted in the city. In 1953, an apprentice plumber was working in the cellars of the Maison du Trésorier when he suddenly heard the distant sound of a horn.

Shortly after the horn, he was shocked to see a large draft horse emerge from the brick wall, ridden by a disheveled Roman soldier. As this city was founded by the Romans in AD 71, it is easier to believe this legend.
Whether you believe the legend or not, the bedroom has now been transformed into an original Airbnb with a king-size bed and a double sofa bed.
While the history of this medieval timber-framed structure is unknown, evidence of the hauntings of former residents makes it an exciting visit for fans of the horror genre.

Although the rooms have the ambience of an 11th-century ghostly house, they are fully equipped with all the amenities of a modern hotel, including high-speed Wi-Fi, refrigerators and microwaves.
So maybe the creepy noises that guests keep hearing were actually the Romans trying to figure out how the toaster works.
People who stayed in these rooms seemed to like the place.
“A truly unique place. Unusual but in a most wonderful way,” said one reviewer.

Another suspected her room was haunted and wrote, “While I’m not sure I believe in ghosts, I thought it would be fun to see one if they exist. That feeling changes a bit. when lying in bed in total darkness and hearing noises from the old house! “
“The House ticked all the boxes for us with history oozing from the walls, bad taxidermy, creaky floors and a four-poster bed,” added another.
