Step back to the 70s in vintage Margate Airbnb overlooking the beach
Lava lights, elephant leg jeans, Brady Bunch and David Bowie are all things we’ve known and loved since the ’70s.
The houses were outfitted with rattan furniture and several shades of burnt orange – a trend that is slowly returning to homes for millennia.
But an Airbnb host took it a step further by turning part of her home into a ’70s haven, overlooking the sunny sands of Margate in Kent.
Jessie Rose has converted the entire top floor of her central Margate townhouse into a studio and now rents it out to holidaymakers across the UK.
The studio has an amazing original 70s kitchenette, authentic vintage lighting and a restored blue bathroom that had to be shipped from Cornwall.
It features iconic ’70s wallpaper, burnt orange kitchen tiles, an orange sofa, and orange cushions in the window seat, overlooking the Dreamland Ferris Wheel.
Jessie said: “You have to go through my house to get to the studio, but it’s her own private floor with a private bathroom, living room, and a lockable door. This is the top of the house, so you will have to climb a few flights of stairs!
“It has a wonderful view of the beach and Dreamland, both a minute’s walk away!”
The apartment costs £ 60 per night and can accommodate up to three people – and although it’s incredibly popular, it still has some availability for September and October.
Ten people left five star reviews for the studio in August, recommending it as one of the best places to stay in Margate.
Charlotte said: “A fabulous few days at Margate in Jessie’s apartment. So much thought went into the design of the original 70s kitchen and bathroom that was salvaged and restored. I loved the side seat. window with sea view.
“A great location for Dreamland, the beach and all the lovely restaurants in and around the old town. Jessie was an excellent host and very welcoming. I would come back without hesitating!”
Elizabeth added: “Jessie’s studio in the 70s was amazing! The decor and attention to detail was fantastic, it was in a brilliant location and had everything we needed. Jessie was adorable and had great vintage store recommendations. The check-in process was easy and she made us feel very welcome.
And Caroline added: “What a great little find! Took us back to childhood and the details of the 1970s were amazing.
