Supermarkets special: Frozen meals cheaper than take-away meals
Frozen food don’t get enough credit. I’ll go so far as to say that some offerings these days are healthier than most of the dishes we cook from scratch, let alone take out.
They are also much more affordable that whatever you order from Uber Eats, and fast and convenient. Many can be cooked in minutes in the microwave, which in my head means my teens can cook dinner more often.
(Well, that’s my hope anyway.)
Let’s take a look at some of the frozen food deals at your favorite supermarkets this week, each with amazing specials on delicious, affordable meals for your family.
This week Coles has something for everyone in the frozen food section, starting with the tried and trusted frozen dumplings – but not just any frozen dumplings. This week, the supermarket cut back on Diana Chang Pork Dumplings, which are half the price to just $ 3.75 for a packet of about 250g.
You can also pick up McCains Gourmet Frozen Chips for just $ 2.15 a bag. I always have frozen fries on hand because I’ve found that my kids are pretty much happy with anything I’ve made for dinner when there is a ‘fried side’.
Also on sale at Coles this week:
Breaded Steggles Chicken Fillets $ 4.50 for a pack of four;
Punjabi Samosa $ 5.00 for a 6.50g packet;
Uncle Ben’s Special Fried Rice (microwave) $ 1.62 each;
Creative Gourmet Blueberries $ 2.82 for a 300g bag.
I recently made a shocking discovery: Frozen pizza is often much better than takeout and is much more affordable, which means we can eat it more often for lunch or dinner.
With fruit and salad on the side, this makes for a perfectly reasonable and incredibly delicious regular family meal.
This week in Woolworths McCains frozen pizzas and pizza slices cost $ 5.50 per pack, saving you $ 1.50, so it’s worth stocking up on. You can also get some delicious Four ‘N Twenty Angus Australian Beef Pies for $ 7.50, and a little tip: frozen pies in the microwave for about three minutes, then put them in the oven for a few minutes to keep them cool. they are crispy and ready faster.
