Tahith Chong missed Birmingham’s win at Middlesbrough with groin injury
Loaned Manchester United player Tahith Chong missed Birmingham City’s 2-0 win at Middlesbrough on Saturday with a groin injury.
After the Blues’ victory at Riverside Stadium, Birmingham boss Lee Bowyer said the Dutchman suffered an injury in training.
Speaking to official club website, Bowyer said, “Chong gave a five-yard pass in practice and felt pain in his groin. He went for a scan.
After recording his first assist since August for Birmingham in Ethan Laird’s victory over Swansea last week, Chong was reportedly hoping to kick off.
However, in Chong’s absence, two quick second-half goals from Marc Roberts and Scott Hogan have given Birmingham back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.
Birmingham will host Bristol City at St Andrew’s tomorrow and host Reading on Saturday.
Chong hopes to make the last two games before the international break in November, but that will depend on how quickly he can recover from his groin injury.
The Blues currently occupy 14th place in the championship standings with 19 points, five points behind play-off places.
The 21-year-old has started 13 league games this season and has three assists to his name.
After two frustrating loans in Germany and Belgium, Chong seems to have settled in Birmingham and enjoys playing first-team football on a regular basis.
In fact, Chong has already racked up more minutes (1,116) during his time with the Blues than he has with Club Brugge and Werder Bremen combined (1,078), according to Transfer market.
Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long to see the Netherlands Under-21 international return to the pitch and torment the defenses.
