TAT held bright Chinese New Year 2022 celebrations in Bangkok and Ratchaburi

Festivities helping to honor 47 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.

BANGKOK– Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China held a ceremony to light up this year’s traditional Chinese New Year decorations in Bangkok’s Chinatown on Yaowarat Road.

HE Mr. Phiphat RatchakitprakarnMinister of Tourism and Sports, presided over the ceremony on Saturday January 29, 2022, at Royal Jubilee Gate (Circle Odeon). The event also took place in the presence of SEM. Han ZhiqiangAmbassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, and Mr. Yuthasak SupasornGovernor of TAT.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, TAT, and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China have worked closely together every year to organize the Chinese New Year celebrations. This year’s activities are taking place in Yaowarat (Bangkok’s bustling Chinatown) and the neighboring province of Ratchaburi.

HE Phiphat said: “While celebrating the Chinese New Year 2022, these events also celebrate and help strengthen the close diplomatic relations between Thailand and China which are now in their 47th year..”

In Yaowarat, Chinese New Year 2022 decorations and lights to celebrate the Year of the Tiger are displayed from January 29 to February 28, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. daily at the Royal Jubilee Gate (Odeon Circle) and along Yaowarat Road. Festive displays include a 45-meter-long tunnel arch of light and over 800 street lanterns. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously offered four lamps for the decoration of the arch of the Royal Jubilee Gate.

In Ratchaburi, the 2022 Chinese New Year Festival runs from January 29 to February 2, 2022 at Pracha Phatthana Dam in Mueang District. In addition to decorations and lights, the event program includes cultural performances and live music on a stage in the middle of the Maeklong River, lion and dragon dance performances, a water fountain show, cooking demonstrations of auspicious dishes and workshops on Chinese arts. ; such as writing, Chinese lantern making and Chinese astrology.

TAT also supports the Chinese New Year Festival in Nakhon Sawan Province, which is held from January 25 to February 5, 2022 at Pak Nam Pho in Mueang District.

Mr. Yuthasak said that TAT organized and supported the 2022 Chinese New Year festivities under the COVID Free-Setting model by strictly following public health measures.

Attendees wishing to attend the events can pre-register through the QueQ app, and must present proof of having received two doses of vaccination and a negative test result for COVID-19 via the Antigen Test (ATK) method within 72 hours at the entrance of the event. Alternatively, the ATK test can be carried out free of charge upon entry. All attendees must undergo temperature screening, adhere to preventative measures and wear a face mask at all times.
