Ten of the best spas within an hour of Stoke-on-Trent
If you’re looking for a spa to get rid of the stresses and strains of everyday life, we’ve got you covered. The finalists for the Good Spa Guide Awards 2022 have just been revealed.
A representative from The Good Spa Guide said, “We are delighted to announce the list of finalists for the 2022 Good Spa Guide Awards sponsored by Natura Bisse. We’ve had some great nominations this year, showcasing the best in the UK spa industry.
Here is a list of the ten nominees who are within an hour’s drive of Stoke-on-Trent.

Cottons Hotel and Spa, Knutsford, WA16 0SU
The Cottons Hotel and Spa in Cheshire is on the list of best boutique spas for price.
Tony Pye says: “Absolutely stunning spa. We fell in love so much we are mooning here!! » The spa offers a range of treatments using Caudalie, Jessica and Elemis products.
At Cottons Hotel and Spa, you can relax in a cozy bar with a wood-burning stove or head to the outdoor terrace. The first-class spa has a 13m swimming pool, treatment rooms and outdoor hot tub, as well as a gym and activity studio.
Spa aficionado Julie Ann D commented, “The ambience of the spa area certainly sets the tone for relaxing your mind and body. I chose to have the full body massage and was lucky enough to have Sally. She was superb, I would definitely recommend Cottons Hotel and Spa.”
The Belfry Spa, Sutton Coldfield, B76 9PR
Belfry Spa is a resort surrounded by 550 acres of countryside. They offer a range of ESPA treatments, a relaxation room and a finishing studio for nails and beauty.
Liverpool‘s Amos remarked: “Wow, just wow. The Belfry never failed to amaze me When we went to our room the staff had left soft toys for the kids and some snacks for my birthday, it was lovely.
The Belfry Spa is environmentally conscious by providing large ESPA pumps in the showers rather than individual small bottles for shampoo etc.
Amos continued: “My husband and I headed for the fire and ice experience, it was great fun with lots of different rooms to try.
“I will 100% return to Le Beffroi, the staff go out of their way to make your stay the best it can be. I was sad to leave.
Mottram Hall, Mottram, SK10 4QT
The spa opened in September 2020 as the first Champneys spa in the North of England after a major overhaul and refurbishment.
At Mottram Hall, you can sample amazing local specialties and reimaginings of fine dining classics courtesy of new Executive Chef Colin Gannon.
Kelly from Runcorn said: “Every member of staff had a smile on their face. They seemed proud to work there and when the staff are happy, so are the guests!
Jess H, who visited last week, commented: ‘The food was delicious, we both got to try a three course meal with different wines, champagne, gin and prosecco.
“The staff at Mottram Hall really went above and beyond to make sure our experience was one to remember.”
The Spa at Breedon Priory, Derby, DE73 8LG
Breedon Priory’s spa borders Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. It features a relaxation area, sun terrace and spa garden.
Sarah, a recent visitor, said: “The details have been very carefully thought out to make it such a relaxing environment. The staff were so friendly and amazing, they couldn’t do enough for you and made the day so relaxing.
Spa guest Nick visited in April, “A wonderful experience from start to finish. Treated myself to a day package that included lunch and a two hour treatment.
“The spa is brand new so everything looks fresh and well finished to a high specification. An unexpected highlight was lunch! The food was excellent and a cut above meals I’ve had at other spas .”
Hoar Cross Hall, Burton-on-Trent DE13 8QS
Hoar Cross Hall is an idyllic, restored Grade II listed building in Staffordshire, surrounded by extensive grounds with lakes and abundant wildlife.
Joe Clarke enjoyed his recent visit, “Hoar Cross Hall is a beautiful setting for a relaxing break. They have lovely staff, beautiful grounds, great food, and an amazing spa. We felt like royalty the whole time we were there.
They offer a selection of facial and body treatments, performed by highly qualified spa therapists.
Michelle said in her review, “A great place to relax and unwind. We couldn’t have wished for a better day, quite simply: absolutely superb. I would highly recommend.”
Rookery Hall Hotel and Spa, Nantwich CW5 6DQ
A Grade II Georgian building, Rookery Hall is a luxury hotel set in scenic Cheshire countryside.
Alison visited in April, she said: ‘The service from the spa team at Rookery Hall is amazing. I had a great time with my mom during our massage and facial combo. I will definitely come back. Highly recommend coming here for a spa treatment.”
Be sure to try manicures and pedicures in the nail salon; floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the gardens. You might even spot bunnies bouncing around the terrain.
Brian couldn’t be happier: “The pool is clean and a good size for a hotel, the spa is large and the treatments are very professional. In short, difficult to find fault. No hesitation in highly recommending this beautiful hotel.”
Hale Country Club and Spa, Altrincham WA15 7AF
The Hale Country Club Spa is where you can truly get away from it all and experience true relaxation.
Shannan Smullen said: “My mum and I had an amazing day at the spa here! Hannah, the spa manager, was lovely and provided us with refreshments before our treatments. The beauticians, Jodie and Serena, were fantastic.
With five thermal experiences to enjoy including the Finnish sauna, steam room, herbal room and salt sauna, as well as the infinity wellness pool, the indoor thermal suite is an idyllic space from which to take in the breathtaking views of the Cheshire landscape.
Gary Stubbs enjoyed his time at the spa. he said: “Amazing facilities, from yoga to the gym. The thermal suites are excellent and a great place to relax. Views from the jacuzzi. Snacks from the restaurant and bar are there every time.
The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Knutsford WA16 6LJ
This spa is a mix of old and new, with exposed brickwork and a bright, modern design. There is also a large hammam, an aromatic hammam, a caldarium, a salt inhalation room and a sauna.
Ner, who stayed in May this year, said: ‘My husband booked a spa package at this hotel and it was faultless from the moment we walked in.
“We had afternoon tea and the scones were delicious. We used the spa which was lovely. The evening meal was beautiful and super tasty!”
You can relax on the tepidarium beds, on the sunny terrace, or snuggle up in the deep or bright relaxation rooms.
Catherine B, a frequent visitor to the spa, “I was delighted to see that it has been refreshed a bit and that it now focuses on the guest experience. The therapists were great as always, and the spa was clean and relaxing.
Carden Park Spa, Chester CH3 9DQ

Danielle celebrated her birthday at the Carden Park Spa: “The staff were wonderful, extremely professional and accommodating. I had a birthday plate served during lunch. It was a nice surprise and a nice attention.
The weather was great so we spent most of our day in the spa garden, the staff served us attentively, we were totally spoiled.

Moddershall Oaks, Stone ST15 8WF
Moddershall Oaks is set in 72 acres of scenic Staffordshire countryside with a private lake.
This is the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy absolute comfort, where nothing is too much trouble. The spa, near Stone, is currently celebrating the launch of its fantastic new spa facilities.
Sue R from Liverpool commented: “Moddershall Oaks spa retreat is hands down one of my favourites. It is set in the trees with a beautifully maintained setting. My fifty minute massage was wonderful and relaxing.
“The spa’s outdoor pool is perfect and even better when the sun comes up. We drank Prosecco by the pool.”
Another recent visitor, Degongo, said: “It’s a really lovely place. Excellent value for money and a good treat. We had prosecco when we arrived and then went straight to the outdoor hot tub.
“The treatments were lovely, there were relaxing smells everywhere, and the bedroom was comfortable and cozy.”
