Tesla cars lead UFODrive’s first rental services in the US

Tesla cars lead the UFODrive launch in the United States. Late last week, UFODrive announced its new location in San Francisco. The Europe-based rental company already offers services in London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, and more.

It plans to expand its services in the United States. UFODrive’s first US location is Sutter-Stockton Garage 444 Stockton Street, San Francisco. By October, UFODrive aims to offer rentals in Austin and New York.

UFODrive offers electric cars for daily or weekly rental. It also has a monthly subscription for longer rentals. The official website of the European company offers Tesla Model Y and Model 3 Long Range 5-seater rental services in San Francisco.

According Tech Crunch, UFODrive worked with Inspiration to secure around 20 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y units for its foray into the United States. In the past, the rental company started its rental fleet with Tesla cars and added to it in the following weeks and months.

UFODrive CEO Aidan McClean is also interested in adding Ford electric vehicles to his fleet. In Europe, the company also offers the Tesla Model S, Volkswagen ID.3, Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Kona EV, Polestar and other electric vehicles from various brands.

Tesla Robotaxi in development

Tesla officially listed the Robotaxi as “in development” in its latest shareholder clearance. It would be interesting to see what happens to rental companies, like UFODrive, once Tesla enters the industry or self-driving vehicles become more mainstream.

Elon Musk thinks Tesla Robotaxis will be like Uber and Airbnb. He felt that people would use self-driving cars more because they don’t need human drivers to operate.

“But what’s interesting is that the car still costs the same price,” Musk pointed out. “So in this scenario – at least for a while – the effect of gross margin on a self-driving car is a bit mind-boggling.”
