The Airbnb management company triples in size

A START-UP that manages properties and lists them on Airbnb has seen its activity triple in a year.

Bournemouth-based Vantage Point was created to make it easier for people to rent vacant properties on the growing online platform.

It takes care of listing and managing homes and dealing with guests and has expanded to cover other platforms such as and TripAdvisor.

Jon Duignan, who created Vantage Point with Chellenka Davis, said: “This year we will have had 25,000 guests in our house.

“We have tripled the number of properties in one year.

The company has also acquired its own properties for rental.

Latimer House, near Poole Quay, is a former office building converted into 15 self-catering apartments, whose guests have included business visitors to nearby Lush. Lyons House in Swanage consists of six apartments and one house.

The company is setting up a loyalty card, with which it intends to boost local businesses by offering special offers to its customers.

“Especially during the winter months a lot of people come for short breaks. We try to help our customers and local businesses by promoting the reward card, ”said Mr. Duignan.

The growing popularity of Airbnb and rival platforms has allowed people to make money with homes they don’t use, but has also raised concerns that this may worsen the housing shortage.

But Mr Duignan said: ‘Especially in Bournemouth and Poole many apartment leases don’t allow Airbnb, so it’s a myth that this takes a lot of rental properties off the market. Ninety-eight percent of apartments in Bournemouth and Poole do not allow vacation rentals.

He added: “Latimer House was an office building for many years before it was converted. It was a space that otherwise wasn’t going to be used.

There were also concerns that the properties could be turned into party houses, but Mr Duignan said Airbnb has taken several steps to ensure guests behave well, including the ability for owners to rate their guests.

“We manage all of our properties. We are very strict with the guests, ”he said.

He said there had been few attempts to offer the same service. “There have been a lot of agents who have tried it, but it is a very comprehensive job. It’s basically a 24/7 business. You must be on call for guests at all times, ”he added.
