The Nont Sarah pub was built in 1803 as a ‘halfway house’ as it stood halfway between Huddersfield and Rochdale on an old Roman road.
The name Nont Sarah means “Aunt Sarah”, after the woman who bought the house and whose ghost is said to haunt the cellar.

Knowing that the cellar now has a karaoke stage and a bar with a dancing pole, let’s hope this 19th century ghost likes to party.
Another ghost story comes from the tragic story of the family who once lived in the chalet.
The son hanged himself after being abused by the family due to his medical condition and his mother is believed to still haunt the house.
The venue, which can accommodate 16 people a minute due to Covid-19 restrictions, fills up quickly on Air BnB, so book early if you don’t want to miss out. Rates start at £ 1,400 per night.
