The Excelsior Hotel opens its doors on Water Street

A century-old restored brick charmer on Water Street is now open as a limited-service boutique hotel concept: The Excelsior Hotel.

There’s no reception, lobby bar, bellboy, room service, luxury spa, or even a room key. Instead, guests are given a unique room access code prior to their arrival. According to Jeff Verdoorn, the hotel’s concept design partner, “Our facility is historic downtown Excelsior.” Think of it as the ultimate stay solution to escape the hustle and bustle of the city – your own waterfront pied-à-terre.

After dropping off your bags, explore the shops and restaurants of Water Street, or simply relax in comfort – each of the four suites (all designed by neighboring interior design studio The Sitting Room) exudes an ambiance modern nautical. and includes a full kitchen, living room, sleeping area and reserved parking space at the rear of the building.

Bonus: the hotel is perched above the boutique of local heritage brand Faribault Woolen Mill Co., which is stocked with fan-favorite blankets and throws (including Lake Minnetonka’s best-selling rendition of its throw from map) and a selection of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories.

The final phase of the hotel? Addition of a café-bar on the ground floor and a café flanked by an outdoor patio.
