The hilarious reviews of upset tourists at traditional piers in Britain’s top seaside towns as they are ‘attacked by seagulls’
Day trips to charming seaside towns with traditional old piers are the daily bread of many Britons in summer. However, while the sights and activities found at these attractions might win the most, other tourists have some, uh, great reviews about these piers.
Like, say, being attacked by seagulls after your ice cream. There are too many dogs in the city. Or a “drunken woman” throwing up on your kid on a ride.
Whether you’re looking for all the facts about the coastal spot you’re considering for a vacation or just need a laugh, MyLondon took a look at some of the funniest reasons why Tripadvisor users voted stars out of the UK’s favorite old-fashioned piers.

The popular Llandudno Pier is an example. The longest pier in Wales and a former winner of the prestigious ‘Pier of the Year’ award, this quaint and busy Victorian structure has four stars overall from over 5,000 reviews on Tripadvisor. However, the pretty pier dropped a star from a user due to them being “attacked by seagulls” for their treats.
GrandadLiverpool wrote: ‘My wife and I enjoyed a leisurely stroll along this pier and decided to buy an ice cream each as we left, sadly my wife was attacked by 2 seagulls, 1 flew behind her back and a another flew to his hand knocked his ice cream on the ground, then ate it.
The user continued: “My wife was shocked but unharmed. I think Llandudno council should impose a ban on feeding the seagulls as we think it encourages seagull behavior I’m afraid to think if they had attacked a child or baby in a pushchair We saw several people feeding the seagulls on and around the pier Apart from that we enjoyed our time in Llandudno but next time we will be prepared for the attack of the seagulls.”
Other reviewers on Llandudno Pier have also mentioned the overconfident birds and their fondness for classic coastal snacks, with user mrandmrs111 giving the attraction five stars but warning others to “Keep your pies away from the seagulls!” A third also didn’t remove any stars but commented: ‘Beware the seagulls they swoop down and fly out of your hand!’
However, it’s not the only beloved British pier to be criticized for its animal visitors. Southwold Pier, a popular tourist destination in Sussex which has racked up four-and-a-half stars on Tripadvisor from 2,543 reviews, received an equally comical two-star review.
User Mike L commented: “First and last visit to Southwold – very busy and impossible to walk along the promenade without tripping over dog leashes. We walked down the high street and it was even worse. I realize we are in the minority when it comes to loving dogs and owning dogs but it got completely out of control in places When you see someone walking 4 dogs down the main street trying to pass someone another one walking 2 dogs, and both blocking the sidewalk, something is wrong.

The resort town of Blackpool, home to three piers, isn’t immune to negative reviews either. They wrote: “Needs to be knocked down. Staff have a stinky attitude. In the bar at the end of the pier, the staff mainly do the cooking, couldn’t get served. Visitors are mostly This is no place to take the kids. His daughter came off a merry-go-round covered in vomit from a drunk woman.”
