The Holiday Movie Cottage is NOT available for rental! here’s why

Today I saw hundreds of articles saying that the chalet from the 2006 blockbuster The Holiday movie chalet is available to rent, I laughed and laughed out loud! It doesn’t, because it doesn’t exist.

This house is not real

The film starring Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law is a Christmas staple and today an AirBnb listing has been doing the rounds saying the cottage from the film (how the media covered it) is to win, there is only one problem, the house was completely wrong.

Kate, Jack, Cameron or Jude have never set foot on this particular property. Named Rosehill Cottage in the film and located in Surrey in the film, the exterior was purpose-built and the interior was entirely made up of pre-built sets.

You can even see it being built HERE

So what is actually available for rent?

The holiday movie cottage in this case is called Honeysuckle Cottage and it was this property that the producers used as inspiration when designing the set used in the movie.

Honeysuckle Cottage The Holiday Movie Inspiration

Honeysuckle is simply the inspiration for Rose Hill Cottage and was not used or seen in the film in any way.

The pretty cottage is available to rent for £275 per night and is described on the listing as:

‘The quintessential English cottage! This charming, cozy cottage was the inspiration behind the design of Rosehill Cottage in the hit Hollywood film ‘The Holiday’. It really is a unique and tranquil place to stay.

But hey, the media love to get carried away, don’t they, it’s written right there in the listing that it’s not that of the film. Calm down, clickbait dealers.

The original property sold for £620,000 in 2019 and people can stop over at this charming little abode in Holmbury Saint Mary, Surrey, England and can sleep a maximum of five people per booking.
