the spanish building that inspired the ‘squid game’ stairs
The late Catalan architect Ricardo Bofil was known for creating some of the weirdest, twistiest and most mesmerizing buildings in the world. Among the most famous are these fortress-like apartments, which are said to have inspired the staircases of squid game and basically tailor-made for your Insta feed (decades before that even existed, of course).
And you know what? Some of them are now available for rent on Airbnb. The Muralla Roja, in Alicante in Spain, was originally social housing, but these days there’s a distinctly chic vibe about it. All apartments are now privately owned and share an outdoor terrace and rooftop pool. But perhaps the most striking thing about the place are those pastel red facades and the Escher-esque stairwells.
The interiors are quite stylish too. Among those available for rent is this An apartment with one bedroom complete with rattan furniture, cream curtains and a decent range of artwork. With the notoriously excellent weather in these areas, however, you’ll no doubt want to spend most of your time lounging on the roof terrace.
This two-bed option has a newly renovated balcony, while this three-bed leans on the vibrant exterior with its own showy orange color scheme. Even better, all apartments are just 50 meters walk from the beach. Attempted ? Head to Airbnb to check availability and reserve your spot.
Have you seen that the ‘Too Hot to Handle’ villa is now the most expensive Airbnb in the world?
