The ‘superb’ treehouse hidden away three hours from Birmingham – with outdoor baths and wild horses
Just a few hours drive from Birmingham lies a country full of holiday destinations. Wales has it all, the mountains, the seaside… and even a giant conker you can stay.
Nestled in the Cambrian Mountains, right in the middle of Wales, is one of the most extraordinary holiday accommodations. It is best described as a giant conker, designed to resemble the moon, made up of a sphere of hexagons. There is no running water, no fridge, no phone signal and no outlets. It really is an escape from the rest of the world.
The ‘conker’ is gray with circular windows, which resemble the craters of a moon. One of them even lights up at night which makes the whole Airbnb feel completely otherworldly rather than something in Mid Wales.

There is a slight twist though, which only adds to the wild experience, as the baths have to be filled by hand with water from the nearby stream which can then be heated in a kettle. You can enjoy a moonlit bath before returning to the comfort of the super king-size bed in front of the fire.
Outside is a gas stove for cooking, or you can use the fire pit which is covered to combat all kinds of weather. There’s also tea, coffee and marshmallows provided – but the hosts suggest using the river if you need a ‘cooler’ as there’s no fridge.
The Airbnb page says: “If you dreamed of regenerating during confinement. If you want to swing axes, make fires, and create your own moonbathing experience, this is the conker for you.
The Airbnb has received rave reviews from satisfied guests. One said: ‘It’s a great experience, the pod is nice and comfortable and in a very private space. Be sure to climb the hill behind the pod for a good view of your surroundings.
“There are a few wild horses wandering around and will come to your pod but they are friendly. The sky is clear at night and you can clearly see the stars and the full moon.
Another said: ‘Sitting outside having breakfast by the fire with the sheep, walking to the top of the hills, spending hours filling the bath. Watching the stars at night while eating marshmallows. It was truly magical. »
Pets are allowed in the Airbnb and long-term stays are also accepted. You can stay in the Moon Conker with prices starting at £178 a night. Book Airbnb .
