This beautiful historic home in Amarillo is for sale at $ 200,000
I was driving the other day with a colleague when we met in the Plemons-Eakle neighborhood. You know, the area with all the pretty brick roads – it’s sandwiched with Wolflin in the area around Amarillo College.
He showed where our other colleagues live and admired the neighborhood. Then, as we turned into Van Buren Street, we both spotted a large, beautiful old house perched just around the corner with a “For Sale” sign stuck in the front yard. We were in awe of the house. You could just feel the energy emanating from it, even from the sidewalk.
When I got home, I jumped in line to see if I could find the list, and sure enough! The house, located at 1618 S. Van Buren is listed by Burgundi Thurman with ReMax Town & Country and I couldn’t believe the asking price: $ 240,000.
While that might be a bit high for some, you really need to take a look at the house to see why I’m shocked that it isn’t listed for more. It is a true historical gem! One has the impression of being transported in time just by looking at this magnificent building, it is so well preserved. You can just say it was lived with love and care.
I took a look at the description in the listing and sure enough this 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home was built in 1926 and has been in the same family for generations.
The house has some of its original features including stained glass, light fixtures, crown moldings, pocket doors between the living room and dining room, and hardwood floors upstairs.
Its updates include brand new flooring on the main level, heated floors in the main level bathroom, plantation shutters, and granite in the kitchen. The ground floor has newer windows and central heating and air.
The list ends with the suggestion of: With a zoning change, this home would be the perfect office space or a guest bedroom. Don’t miss your chance to own this little slice of history in Amarillo.
But honestly, I would hate to see this house serve as an office or guest room (and certainly not an AirBnB). I would just like to see another family move in here to fill these walls with love and laughter, just like these generations before.
