This private island in the Venice lagoon is now available on Airbnb

International travel can resume, but things are a bit different. On the one hand, we are really in personal space. Who wants to stay in a cramped hotel room when you could have your own terrace with a private pool? Or, better yet, a 50-acre private island in the dreamy lagoon that surrounds Venice?

The island of Valle Falconera is just off Cavallino-Treporti, a boat ride from Venice itself – and you can rent it exclusively on Airbnbwith many dates available throughout 2020 and beyond.

Accommodation consists of a traditional rose farmhouse, with six bedrooms sleeping up to 16 people. Elsewhere on the island you will find fish farms, chickens, beehives, vines, pear and fig trees, reports Il Gazzettino, and sometimes even exotic birds like kingfishers, bee-eaters and flamingos.

Your hosts are sisters Martina and Anna Sarzetto, who inherited the island from their grandfather and dedicated themselves to cultivating it – which, luckily for you, includes welcoming visitors.

You should know that if you’re just looking for quick access to St. Mark’s Square and Rialto, this probably isn’t the one (for more convenient choices, check out our list of the best Airbnbs in Venice). But this is balanced by an incredible price for so much space to belong to you.

For one or two people, prices start at €87 (£78, $104, A$143) per night. Bring a party of 16 and you’ll pay €577 per night, or just €36 (£33, $43, A$59) per person. And that, as the Italians would say, ‘è un vero affare’ – especially if 2020 has made you want to embrace slow tourism and nature wonders in one of the most beautiful places in Europe.
