this psychedelic mexican snake house is probably the most surreal airbnb you can get
Javier Senosiain’s Nido de Quetzalcoatl (Quetzalcoatl’s Nest) is a surreal snake-shaped house north of Mexico City — now available for rent on Airbnb. a key proponent of organic architecture, senosiain used color and form to blend the structure into the 5,000m² of uneven terrain. the continuous form rises from the ground and, colored in a combination of green, blue, purple and orange hues, transports visitors to a dreamy, psychedelic environment. the ten apartments contained within its streamlined walls contrast the vibrant exterior with a white palette and soft wooden surfaces.

mexican architect preserved a cave 50 meters long and 6 meters wide, one of many found in the extremely irregular topography of the site, which inspired the shape of the house, as it resembled the head of a serpent with jaws open. ‘one day i thought the mouth of the cave looked like a snake’s head with open jaws,’ senosian note, “we located it in the scale model and noticed that it looked like a virtual snake going in and out of the earth – so we decided to place a tail and call it quetzalcoatl.” lovers of organic architecture can now enjoy the serpent house from its “belly”, as the quetzalcoatl nido is available for rent on airbnb.
