This recipe for air frying your Brussels sprouts is essential

If you own an air fryer, you to have to use it to roast vegetables. And Brussels sprouts would be a fantastic place to start.

The air fryer is practically tailor-made for cooking Brussels sprouts. It will char the outside and make the leaves crispy, while roasting the inside of the vegetables in a very short time. Brussels sprouts you had a child – the bitter, soggy mess – that couldn’t be further from the end result in the air fryer.

Now you can just throw most vegetables in an air fryer with oil, salt and pepper and get great results. This would work for Brussels sprouts. But this TikTok recipe of @lovelydelites add a nice little touch – a sprinkle of balsamic glaze. It’s perfect, and I recommend you try this recipe. Here’s what you need to know.

Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts (as much as your heart desires, as long as you leave space for air to circulate in your fryer)

  • salt and pepper

  • high smoke point oil such as canola or peanut oil

  • balsamic vinegar glaze

directions

  1. Cut off the end of each Brussels sprout, then cut the sprout in half. If you have exceptionally large shoots, you can cut them into wedges.

  2. In a large bowl, coat the Brussels sprouts with oil, then season generously with salt and pepper. Seriously, it’s very hard to oversalt Brussels sprouts, but undersalted Brussels sprouts are no good. Salt, salt, salt.

  3. Squeeze a tablespoon or two of glaze over the seasoned vegetables. Basically you want to create a wavy line on top of the Brussels sprouts. Mix to coat.

  4. Air fry at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes – or until fork tender but crispy on the outside – then enjoy.

The details

This is one of those recipes that you just can’t mess up. Well I’m sure you could ruin everything if you cook the brussels sprouts for 45 minutes but otherwise… it’s so simple. The hot, circulated air in the air fryer perfectly crisps the vegetable which is made to become crispy. All you really need is salt, pepper, and some sweet and tangy glaze that caramelizes perfectly.

It’s the subtle touch that enhances this recipe. Balsamic and Brussels is a heavenly marriage. The sweet acidity of the glaze does a good job of making the bitterness of the Brussels more pleasant in a way. The final product will probably take 15 minutes at most. When testing the recipe, I used small Brussels sprouts which were cooked in just under 12 minutes. Here’s what they looked like.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Everything works together. If anything, since I love spice, I would add red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper in the future to hit all the bases: salty, sweet, fatty, sour, and spicy.

Not every air fryer recipe found on TikTok needs to be a novelty hack. Sometimes you come across a recipe that can become a staple. It’s the perfect side dish, and I don’t think there’s any reason to cook your Brussels sprouts any other way. It’s simple, delicious, healthy and easy to clean. Plus, you don’t have to scrub a griddle thoroughly – just wipe down the nonstick basket.

If you’re not a fan of Brussels sprouts, I bet you’ll love them cooked this way.
